Christmas Trends 2017

Will your Christmas be trimmed in tradition or draped in gold? To help with your Christmas inspiration this year, we’ve uncovered our Top 5 Christmas trends for 2017! One of our favourite trends this year is gold! Even featured on the Christmas tree in our showroom, this metallic and luxurious tone has stolen our hearts. We love to match it with black and white to squeeze even more luxury out of this shade. Feather wreaths, sequined poinsettias, many baubles and various garlands can be spotted in The Prop House draped in gold, champagne and copper tones. Pair gold with black and white for opulence, or team it with white washed timber for a sophisticated dream-like effect.   Christmas is all about uniting with friends and family, and what better way to welcome guests into your home than with a raw, organic and rustic design. We’re embracing the Danish concept, hygge; to live cozy and comfortable. Create a warm and inviting space this Christmas with textures of timber, wool or even antler. Share food, drinks and conversation among pieces influenced by the earth, with a neutral colour palette keeping the ambiance relaxed and cozy.   While we like to stay clear of tinsel, there are other ways to capture tradition in an exquisite red and green colour palette. The luxury of red velvet poinsettias are a welcome addition to Nordic trees, green wreaths or just used in a table vase. Christmas parties come alive with the glitter finishes of these traditional Christmas flowers that both grandma and your friends will surely approve of. Cranberries aren’t only for your ham; bunched...

How to Make the Perfect Bow

Follow the instructions below to create the perfect bow for your Christmas tree or any occasion. Cut your ribbon of choice to the desired length. For 50mm wide ribbon we recommend a length of approximately 800mm. For 200mm wide ribbon cut to a length of 1200mm, cut each end in a V shape to create the tail. Fold the ribbon as per the first diagram below, with the best side of the ribbon on the outside. Gather together centre of ribbon loop and centre of ribbon crossover as per second diagram. Twist green florist wire around this central point to hold the bow secure. Add balls or decorations with florist wire to the centre of the bow to create the perfect posies for your tree. Note: the best bow is created when using wired ribbon. This ribbon with bendable wire incorporated into the outside edges of the ribbon and gives you the ability to shape the ribbon into the perfect bow. The Prop House and VM+ stock a large range of wired ribbon as well as green florist wire....

How to Trim the Perfect Christmas Tree

Ever wondered how those Christmas trees in shopping centres are decorated so PERFECTLY?  Every bauble seemingly in its specific place, amazingly even distribution of those ever-tangling lights and perfect ratio of bauble colours and textures, all while never seeing how they are hung on the tree or even that the lights have leads? Well, never fear, we are going to let you in on our tree trimming secrets! Follow our steps to success and you’ll be trimming like a professional! 1. Assemble your tree and fluff out the branches. Start at the bottom and work your way up row by row. To create a full tree shape you will need to separate the tree tips from the main branch. Start with the pair of fronds closest to the central trunk, make an upward v shape and continue this process along the branch ensuring that the fronds are at varying heights. To add realism to the odd frond can be positioned in a downward v. 2. Visually divide your tree into two sections. Begin lighting each section of your tree from the top in a zig zag motion to the base. To ensure you achieve the best positioning if lights have them turned on whilst positioning. Make sure you try to conceal all wires and wrap the tip of a frond around the base of the light bulb to keep it upright and in place. 3. Divide your decoration into two even piles. Decorate your tree one section at a time. Start by putting all larger decoration on first then the second largest and so on, to create an even...
