Tree Top Play – The new way for kids to enjoy shopping centres

“Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning.” – Mr. Rogers Tree Top Play is the newest play area designed by VM+ and installed at Robina Town Centre on the Gold Coast. Inspired by the rainforest which surrounds Robina to the West, Tree Top Play draws off the flora and fauna found in the mountainous region of the Gold Coast Hinterland. The play area was custom designed by VM+ to be a place of interactive learning and fun. The first eye-catching element in the tenancy draws your eye up into the canopy of the rainforest, where circular timber rings hang, overflowing with greenery, Edison bulb lighting, mirror disks and fairy lights. The effect is magical and immersive. The custom built cubby house includes leaf shaped climbing grips instead of a classic ladder, and a green slide bringing delight to the adventurous. Pebble cushions and log and stump cushions surround and spread in and around the cubby house providing comfort and security. The timber tic tac toe game varies from the original classic with a guest appearance from the local cockatoo and green tree frog. The swiveling cubes line up to provide more interactive play and memory learning skills. Sparking delight in children, the Green Tree Frog climbing wall sits at a perfect height for boys and girls to boulder along the mounted frog, completed with high quality hand-holds so children can practice their hand-eye coordination. A caterpillar play panel sits at the end of the walkway ready for little hands to explore each element but also allow multiple children to play at the same time. A “Can You Find Me”...

The Year of the Dog

“Good Luck, Good Health, Good Cheer and Happy New Year!” Chinese New Year is a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate our multiculturalism. This year, Australia Fair on the Gold Coast, Brisbane Airport and Harbour Town all celebrated the beginning of the Year of the Dog 2018. Two large voids in the Australia Fair shopping centre hung an elaborate chandelier of Chinese fans and lanterns. The lanterns symbolize people letting go of their past selves and are red in colour to symbolize good fortune. The dragon represents prosperity, good luck and good fortune. Australia Fair To coincide with the lantern chandeliers, the team at VM+ coordinated the display cases at Australia Fair to represent the colours of Chinese New Year. Australia Fair The cheery blossom tree pays homage to the famous Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees in Hong Kong. It is believed that if you tie your wish to an orange and throw it into the tree and it stays there, your wish will come true. VM+ installed a 4mH cherry blossom tree into the Brisbane International Terminal to represent the history of the wishing tree for Chinese New Year in the airport. The color red denotes good luck, fortune, happiness and abundance. By using red envelopes in this tradition, patrons can write their wish, hang it in the branches and move forward into their new year. Brisbane Airport – International Terminal Photo opportunities were in high demand, with the season bringing in travelers and crowds. A circular photo ring and a traditional dragon costume were installed for creative ways that guests could capture their time in the various locations. Harbour Town...

Top 5 Christmas jobs of 2017

From designing the concepts to the all-night installations, VM+ had a very busy Christmas in 2017! From spinning disco balls in the Valley Malls, to cheeky nutcrackers and every colour of baubles in-between, we covered it all. Here is a little glimpse of some of our favourite Christmas installs from 2017. Contact the team at VM+ to bring the magic of Christmas to your venue in 2018. 1 William Street With tones of copper, champagne and silver, 1 William Street sparkled this Christmas. Nutcracker soldiers heralded the magic of Christmas with their trumpets, greeting passers by, while the 7.5m tree in the foyer ensured a spectacular display of Christmas joy. Silver ribbon twisted around spiraling baubles on the main tree, while twinkling lights complimented the sophisticated trimming.   Valley Malls One of our most unique Christmas installations for 2017 was the Valley Malls, including China Town and Brunswick Street Mall. Multiple components were constructed by a large team who worked collaboratively to ensure this job embraced everything that we love about Christmas. It was a visual feast of colour, movement and light. VM+ created a destination to be enjoyed by everyone, and celebrated the Valley’s reputation of dancing the night away. Inspiration was drawn from the nightlife in London’s Covent Garden and included features such as two giant dazzling rotating mirror balls, twinkling icicle lights, wreaths and garlands. Matched to existing oriental elements in China Town, wreaths and garlands were trimmed in a red and gold colour palette to maintain tradition with a twist of modern finishes. Banners hung from structures to highlight the Christmas season and take the precinct into...

All That Glitters Is Gold

“Shine like gold, sparkle like glitter“   The VM+ Christmas elves have been busy this year transforming Toombul Shopping Centre with a decorative style that oozes opulence. By using a simple colour palette, the team at VM+ has created a distinctive style for this Brisbane shopping centre. By limiting colour and focusing on texture the foliage comes alive with a sense of luxury. The gold accents of glitter and sequins become illuminated as the warm twinkling lights reflect off their surfaces. By using striped and spotted baubles and zip baubles that link back to the fashion retailers, these decorations ensure a point of difference this busiest time of the shopping year! The addition of geometric sputniks and spiked silver and gold balls enhance the solid gold and compliment the overall tones of the design. If there was a flower which epitomised Christmas, it would have to be the poinsettia. Classically red, the team at VM+ provided tradition through the use of black and white striped and gold beaded poinsettias. The contemporary tones helped freshen the overall trimming while establishing the Christmas decorations as a statement series throughout the centre. A cluster of five slimline Christmas trees enforce the magic of Christmas through their varying heights and festive trimming. The nutcracker soldiers herald the beginning of the festive season through their metallic trumpets, transporting visitors to the North Pole with a twist of New York luxe. A Party of Pom Poms

“Spring is nature’s way of saying, Let’s Party!” – Robin Williams The Spring Summer season at Sacha Drake has begun! With an explosion of colour from various sizes hand made paper pom poms, VM+ designed three window and store displays to reflect the colours found in the latest collection by Sacha Drake.  The pom poms express a festive atmosphere without too much of a heavy Christmas influence. The warm and bright tones of fuscia, peach, yellow, orange and red bring in thoughts of weddings, cocktail parties and S/S racing events. Fun and feminine, the clusters of pom poms compliment the promotional material and create coherence through the enticing pink tones. The pom poms appear to be floating, enhancing the delicate nature of Sacha Drake clothing. The softness of the tissue paper is reflective of Spring florals without dominating the space in actual flowers. They hint to the change in season yet reflect the merry party season which is often filled with work functions, Christmas parties and the big day itself on the 25th. Depth was created throughout the store by hanging various sized pom poms in layers from the window towards the middle of the store.
