Tree Top Play – The new way for kids to enjoy shopping centres

“Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning.” – Mr. Rogers Tree Top Play is the newest play area designed by VM+ and installed at Robina Town Centre on the Gold Coast. Inspired by the rainforest which surrounds Robina to the West, Tree Top Play draws off the flora and fauna found in the mountainous region of the Gold Coast Hinterland. The play area was custom designed by VM+ to be a place of interactive learning and fun. The first eye-catching element in the tenancy draws your eye up into the canopy of the rainforest, where circular timber rings hang, overflowing with greenery, Edison bulb lighting, mirror disks and fairy lights. The effect is magical and immersive. The custom built cubby house includes leaf shaped climbing grips instead of a classic ladder, and a green slide bringing delight to the adventurous. Pebble cushions and log and stump cushions surround and spread in and around the cubby house providing comfort and security. The timber tic tac toe game varies from the original classic with a guest appearance from the local cockatoo and green tree frog. The swiveling cubes line up to provide more interactive play and memory learning skills. Sparking delight in children, the Green Tree Frog climbing wall sits at a perfect height for boys and girls to boulder along the mounted frog, completed with high quality hand-holds so children can practice their hand-eye coordination. A caterpillar play panel sits at the end of the walkway ready for little hands to explore each element but also allow multiple children to play at the same time. A “Can You Find Me”...

Rainforest Play Land

“Play is our brain’s favourite way of learning” Here at VM+ we are experts on creating unique and stand out play areas for children. Not just your average swing set with a table and chair, we take it to the next level…. This month VM+ transformed a vacant tenancy into a rainforest play land. At Robina Town Centre, VM+ took the task to transform a vacant tenancy to temporarily become an adventure land for children and a haven for parents to take a breather in-between shops. Focusing on creating a place of solitude away from the busy shopping areas, VM+ has created a rainforest oasis with bright green turf, vivid wall graphics and greenery and trees galore. Hanging greenery and vines from the ceiling was a very purposeful decision to add the sense of depth and create an even more immersive experience. From the view point of children, the ceiling will become a canopy, allowing minds to wander and activate their imaginations. It is the small touches that really transform the space to be a place of adventure. VM+ has added ‘ride on’ insects to the scene, enhancing the magical park atmosphere as lady birds and bees zoom around on the bark flooring path. Among the turf is a gross motor play gym, catering to toddlers and the younger generations so the whole family can get involved in this play area. Smooth edges and different textures make it an active learning space. Tables and chairs in bright colours and a tepee tent inspire essentials ingredients to childhood such as story-time learning and role-playing. In tribute to Australian wildlife, VM+...

I got it from my mama

“I got it from my mama”- will.i.am Mother’s Day is a wonderful excuse for us to celebrate the incredible women in our lives. In the world of visual merchandising, May is the perfect month to jazz up your shop front, window and shopping centre with themes hinting to these special people. We’re loving sweet picnic scenes, feminine florals, bright pom pom mania and delicate neutrals inspired by the ocean.   Hampton Hideaway  This style ranges from coastal Hampton vibes, to Byron Bay interiors and everything deluxe and neutral. Create a display with shades of coconut creams and Aegean blues. Focus on texture and height through hanging lanterns and layering linen throws and cushions. Head out to your local river park to pick up drift wood pieces or pop into our showroom to pick up some vine twirls; perfect for a coastal inspired arrangement.   Art Mania Is your mum a lawyer, fitness coach, stay-at-home mum or nurse? It doesn’t matter, because there is no denying that almost all women have a creative side (or can at least appreciate it). Tap into that energy through striking window displays featuring copious amounts of colour. Candy red, teal and violet will capture the attention of all and celebrate our art and craft mums who love to get their hands dirty. Using bright colour is a clever way to draw out a shade found in a single item being featured in a window, or just a way of capturing the attention of passers-by. Used in repetition, paper pom poms demand to be noticed, as does our delicious lollipop prop.   Picnic Play Who...

Hop to it… it’s Easter!

From the Easter bunny and chocolate egg hunts, to hot cross buns and Church on Sunday, there are many ways to celebrate Easter! We’ve put together our favourite elements of Easter. From shopping centre displays, to international VM designs and decorating ideas you can do at home. We also have beautiful props available to hire for your Easter events. We love putting on our thinking caps for unique activations in shopping centres for this time of the year. Featured below is one of our gorgeous trees, which has come alive with festoon lights and hanging eggs. By matching the ribbon in the trees to the tolic stools and the table arrangements, the pastel colour pallet creates harmony and balance. Little moss bunnies capture the Easter magic for little ones passing through the area.   Incorporating Easter into your venue doesn’t have to mean bunny rabbits and eggs. The gorgeous addition of market carts and bunting as seen here in a Pop Up event, oozes the comfort of pastel colours and florals. Soft, whimsical elements make up a rustic Easter display, inviting guests to relax into their surroundings. Foliage and cushions are key elements for softening the area and creating an inviting space. Other ways we love to subtly celebrate Easter is through flowers such as peonies, cherry blossoms and silver toned greenery like eucalyptus. Wreaths are the perfect way to express your seasonal support in an elegant and indirect way. Symbolizing growth and everlasting life, the oval wreath is a beautiful representation of life and perfect for your seasonal Easter display. Finish the wreath with a hessian or pastel...

The Year of the Dog

“Good Luck, Good Health, Good Cheer and Happy New Year!” Chinese New Year is a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate our multiculturalism. This year, Australia Fair on the Gold Coast, Brisbane Airport and Harbour Town all celebrated the beginning of the Year of the Dog 2018. Two large voids in the Australia Fair shopping centre hung an elaborate chandelier of Chinese fans and lanterns. The lanterns symbolize people letting go of their past selves and are red in colour to symbolize good fortune. The dragon represents prosperity, good luck and good fortune. Australia Fair To coincide with the lantern chandeliers, the team at VM+ coordinated the display cases at Australia Fair to represent the colours of Chinese New Year. Australia Fair The cheery blossom tree pays homage to the famous Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees in Hong Kong. It is believed that if you tie your wish to an orange and throw it into the tree and it stays there, your wish will come true. VM+ installed a 4mH cherry blossom tree into the Brisbane International Terminal to represent the history of the wishing tree for Chinese New Year in the airport. The color red denotes good luck, fortune, happiness and abundance. By using red envelopes in this tradition, patrons can write their wish, hang it in the branches and move forward into their new year. Brisbane Airport – International Terminal Photo opportunities were in high demand, with the season bringing in travelers and crowds. A circular photo ring and a traditional dragon costume were installed for creative ways that guests could capture their time in the various locations. Harbour Town...

Top 5 Christmas jobs of 2017

From designing the concepts to the all-night installations, VM+ had a very busy Christmas in 2017! From spinning disco balls in the Valley Malls, to cheeky nutcrackers and every colour of baubles in-between, we covered it all. Here is a little glimpse of some of our favourite Christmas installs from 2017. Contact the team at VM+ to bring the magic of Christmas to your venue in 2018. 1 William Street With tones of copper, champagne and silver, 1 William Street sparkled this Christmas. Nutcracker soldiers heralded the magic of Christmas with their trumpets, greeting passers by, while the 7.5m tree in the foyer ensured a spectacular display of Christmas joy. Silver ribbon twisted around spiraling baubles on the main tree, while twinkling lights complimented the sophisticated trimming.   Valley Malls One of our most unique Christmas installations for 2017 was the Valley Malls, including China Town and Brunswick Street Mall. Multiple components were constructed by a large team who worked collaboratively to ensure this job embraced everything that we love about Christmas. It was a visual feast of colour, movement and light. VM+ created a destination to be enjoyed by everyone, and celebrated the Valley’s reputation of dancing the night away. Inspiration was drawn from the nightlife in London’s Covent Garden and included features such as two giant dazzling rotating mirror balls, twinkling icicle lights, wreaths and garlands. Matched to existing oriental elements in China Town, wreaths and garlands were trimmed in a red and gold colour palette to maintain tradition with a twist of modern finishes. Banners hung from structures to highlight the Christmas season and take the precinct into...
