Colour in Visual Merchandising – Paris & London

The wonder of visual merchandising all over the world is created in many formats – design, propping, fashion, merchandise. Each visual merchandiser has a task to fulfil, be it to create impact, to sell product, to attract the passers-by eye. Whatever your task or goal is in when you set out to do your VM job… be sure of one thing COLOUR creates impact!

In recent travels abroad I was lucky enough to experience colour in all forms – in store displays, window dressing and general store layout. Each example made me stop and look – enjoy what I saw…

This was a cute (and very tiny) store in the streets below the Sacre Coeur. Selling colourful lanterns woven from string, I loved the simplistic and colour blocked format in which they had merchandised the store.

Both of these shots just show the use of colour in props and how (on a gloomy, grey day in Paris) colour can inject life, energy and excitement to front of store & visual merchandising. Lovin’ that little travel mate of mine / model!!

Fauchon is a DIVINE brand with 2 stores near L’Opera in Paris and a much visit for all. Not only is the product gobsmackingly amazing…. the merchandising is to die for. Completely decked out in gloss black and hot pink the merchandise comes to life amidst this electric style of merchandising. The packaging too is simple, sophisticated and heavenly – matt black boxes with branded, hot pink satin ribbon tied neatly on top. The behind counter neon was a fav – simple and uber COOL!

Then we got to London and the gloom only continued BUT the colour intensified. Check these fun department store windows. Bright frame mouldings are used as casings for the merchandise. And I love, love, love the oversized hands – fun, bright and a touch mad!!!

Another couple of fun examples of how colour in propping can lift and revitalise visual merchandising. Colourful painted trees and stumps work as both props and risers (love multitasking elements within a display). And pin-wheels… who doesn’t love a pin-wheel?

So you see colour in VM can work in so many different ways – props, build ups, merchandisers… The list of possibilities is endless AND so much fun. Happy window dressing… WDE x
